1881/1891 - jordin

Hi,

I'm trying to trace the family of Charles Jordin, b 1880 Dartford, Essex.

He is listed in the 1901 Census as boarding with another family, but I cannot find any other trace of him or his real family in any earlier census.

Can anyone out there find any trace of them?


As a minor aside, this isn't the first ancestor I've come across who is listed as a boarder. Is this boarding out because they are orphans or an accepted part of an apprenticeship or something?

Adrian,
There is no Dartford in Essex, and if you check the 1901 census image you will see that Charles Jordin's place of birth is shown as just 'Essex'.
There are just 43 people named Jordin in the 1891 census of England, and 49 in the 1881.  None of them were either born or living in Essex.  With that in mind you might want to consider that your Charles Jordin might have been born Jordan.

However, I still can't find any trace of Charles Jordin, or any variants of the surname.

Actually Charley Jordan is Charles Jordan and I have found him and his family in the 1901 census.

I don't have Charles Jordin's parents - this is the problem.
He appears out of nowhere in 1901 as a boarder with another family and I'd like to find his parents.
