c 1920s Guest House fire remains Seaside - HUNSTANTON
« on: Friday 30 September 16 08:41 BST (UK) »
Hello!

Any ideas please as to the location of these

Guest House fire remains

c1920s. Detached stone/brick property. The sign by the 1st floor window is mostly unreadable. "School & Parties Etc, catered for, Terms moderate" and "Accommodation" are visible. I'm guessing it could be a seaside location. There appears to be the remnants of a weighing machine alongside. In the distance (beyond the flag) there appears to be 3+ rows of seating.

With thanks~001uk

Some of the people behind the rope barrier look like schoolchildren,   perhaps they were evacuated from the Guest House?

The letter after A on the sign looks quite square, but is not an E I don't think (no crossbar), and looks too square to be an O (square rather than rounded corners) - unsure about D....

I thnk the first letter could be an M, but am not sure if it is Mc. Maybe a full stop after the M?  :-\

I don't suppose you can get a clearer scan 001?

The long thin sign below this one .... Anything discernible on this after scanning?

I think the third line says 'Accommodation for 30 Persons'

Hi 011UK,

I'm intrigued by your collection of postcards/photos from all over the UK. Are they from your family or are they ones you've picked up at sales?

Hi Ruskie,
I scanned the cropped piece in at 4800dpi. My scanner will go to 12800dpi. I'm not any good at jigging around with images (unlike ShaunJ)! Should I scan again with a higher dpi? I cannot make anything out on the lower sign but can submit an image. Which dpi?
Thanks for your help!

I'm intrigued by them also!!
I have collected images for several decades. I love British Social History & Topography buying them from any source available.

Oops sorry 001, maybe get some advice from someone who knows about these things (sadly, that's not me) - I just thought you might be able to capture a little more detail.

Help please someone?!  ;D
