Trying to find the death of Blanche Mortimore
« on: Monday 03 October 16 17:09 BST (UK) »
Can you work your magic for me please and locate the death of Blanche, daughter of Richard Harry Trelawney Hardy and Alice Maud Hebblethwaite. She was born in Weymouth, Dorset on 28 Feb 1918 and came to Australia in 1955 as the wife of Frederick George Mortimore (cannot find the marriage and as he had been married previously to a French girl - maybe they never divorced) together with their son Tony Frederick Mortimore, born in Croydon 1 Dec 1948 who died in South Australia 18 May 1965. I last locate her alone at 38 Kite St. Orange, Calare, NSW (think this is she). Family gossip says that Fred left her and disappeared with another partner heading off to South Africa.
Her niece has posted that Blanche died in Victoria around 2000.
Would be very grateful for any help you could give me.
Thanks

Just found her name on a Hebblethwaite family site - no address or email for her - have tried to find a current address, can only find her son on facebook - a bit reluctant to pester him.
Thanks

Found it via a Mortimore on ancestry - Springvale Botanical Cemetery, Victoria and cremated 29 October 1996.

Electoral rolls have Blanche MORTIMORE as follows:

1963, with Frederick George MORTIMORE, engineer at
142 Griffith St, Balgowlah, NSW, home duties

1977  - no others of that surname at any of the following addresses.
38 Kite St, Orange NSW, home duties (Calare that you have is the name of the electorate.  It's not part of an address)

1977
2/40 Well St, Brighton, Victoria, occ asst

1980 (last entry for my access)
3/6 Cyril St, Elwood Victoria, occ Housekeeper

Perhaps she was living-in as a housekeeper/companion in the latter entries. etc

PROV (Wills) has this death: Blanche MORTIMORE, pensioner, residing Elwood, 6 October, 1996.  The will is not digitised but you can apply for a copy.
prov.vic.gov.au/index_search?searchid=54

My comment - seems a long time between death and cremation.  Perhaps there was some problem eg needing an inquest  ???

Looks like an attack on Blanche, 1958.
https://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1300&dat=19580325&id=QlFVAAAAIBAJ&sjid=nJUDAAAAIBAJ&pg=5896,3626744&hl=en

This lady's name is very uncommon with distinctive spelling, so I am making an assumption that this is her.  If it is her it's interesting that she was in Melbourne in 1958, Orange NSW in 1977 and then back in Melbourne later in 1977.  The Melbourne addresses - Elsternwick, Elwood, and Brighton are in the same general area of Melbourne.

The 1955 arrival of Blanche, Frederick Geo and Tony MOTIMORE was into Melbourne.
(I am not able to see more details)

Did either of the pair have siblings or relatives living in Melbourne?

This could be a reason we see Blanche moving between states.

Thanks again to all - you add flesh to the bare details of relatives.
Her "husband" I believe had relatives in Australia and certainly her mother-in-law died in Parkvale, Victoria in 1964, arriving in Oz in 1960.
I wonder was Mr Richards attack a case of mistaken identity in 1958 - we shall never know!
Thanks again
Helen
