1911 census searching by address - How?
« on: Wednesday 26 October 16 10:50 BST (UK) »
Ancestry or Find My Past

I can't work out how to do it in either program.  Can a kind soul take pity?

I'm trying to find the residents of Booth Street Spitalfields, London in 1911. How do I find it on there?

Many thanks in advance.  :)

Upcraft (Bethnal Green)
Chidgey (Shoredtich)

Row (Mast makers in Wapping)
Spurden (Stepney and Pancras)
Glibbery (Bishopsgate)

On Ancestry:
Click on Search, then Census & Electoral Rolls.
Select England & Wales 1911 Census Collection, from the right-hand side.
Scroll down, and select 1911 England Census (under related data collections).

There is a Street Address field in which you can enter the street name.

I got 2870 results?!
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

Thank you.  I tried that but when I put Booth Street into the street address it gives me over 5 million hits starting with North Manchester!

If I'm not sure of any other piece of information, how do I just get the Booth Street in Spitalfields?

Oh, hang on, I put Spitalfields in district and it worked.  A lot of the 2700 listed are not Booth Street but the first three or four pages are.

Many thanks for your help.

I've just got it by putting "Booth Street, Spitalfields" into the Keyword box - nothing in other boxes.

If you've got as far as Spitalfields, then it is enumeration district 10
Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex
DeBoo - London
Green - Suffolk
Parker - Sussex
Kemp - Essex
Farrington - Essex
Boniface - West Sussex

If you know the person's name, and if they lived on Booth Street in 1911, could you not just locate them, and then look those living in the same street? :-\

Apologies! :-[

I entered "Lived in" as London. ;D

I no longer have an Ancestry sub, so I couldn't check the details :-\

I do know the name but it is not transcribed as any version that I have tried, unfortunately.

I know they lived in Booth Street in 1919.
