John Williams Hughes 1878-1949
« on: Sunday 06 November 16 09:42 GMT (UK) »
John Williams Hughes was born on March 29 1878 on a farm called Glyn in Llanystumdwy Parish, Caernarvonshire. I am distantly related to him on his mother's side. He married Elizabeth Mary Jones (born ca 1885 in Cardiganshire) in Llanilar Parish Church, Cardiganshire in 1910. They were living in Aberystwyth Cardiganshire in the 1911 and John Williams Hughes was a bank cashier.

John Williams Hughes died in Pinehurst, Mayfield Lane, Wadhurst, Sussex on February 16 1949 according to the probate calendar and his wife Elizabeth Mary died in Q2 1944 in the Uckfield Register District. The ages at death of both of them match their birth years.

I would be grateful if anyone has any information on these two, for instance where they may be buried. I'm unsure whether they had any children.

Have you tried the 1939 register, they are both there in Uckfield with a possible daughter?

Thanks you so much for the tip about the 1939 register. I've picked out the 1939 register on findmypast.

Purchasing death certificates and will may give useful information.

I have suggested to my relatives who are more closely related to John Williams Hughes than me to purchase the will of John Williams Hughes and the death certificates for him and his wife.
I have contacted the Sussex Archives in Brighton and they have copies of local newspapers that may have obituaries or funeral reports for John Williams Hughes and his wife. I live just outside Pwllheli which is in Gwynedd North Wales so a visit to Brighton is not really on! Their research fees are a bit steep for me to be honest but I have passed the information to my relatives. So the ball is in their court.
