Cause of death
«
on:

Hello all,
Is there any way, besides ordering a death certificate from the GRO, to find someone's cause of death? I am specifically looking for the cause of death for my Greatgrandfather in 1927.
Thank you.
Kim

If there was an inquest there might have been a report in a local newspaper.

I found my Great Grandfather's cause of death in 1917 on the London Deaths and Burials on Ancestry. Worth having a look on there, but they don't have entries for the whole UK.
What was his name and place of death?
Romilly.

How sad, - it looks like he was only 50yrs at the time of death. No Registers that I can see, just the entry on the death Index for the Oct/Nov/Dec Quarter of 1927, Vol: 2a Page 1349. It looks like you'll need to oder the Cert if you want cause of death, but at least you can order the PDF from the Gov UK Site now; which is cheaper than the paper Cert.

I've never heard of ordering a PDF before. How do I go about doing that? I'm in Canada.

Hi Kim,
If you go to:
www.gro.gov.uk
You will need to register and open an account, then you can search the GRO Indexes. The UK Goverment has only this week made this facility available, and there has been a lot of discussion about it on here! It is cheaper and quicker than ordering paper copies, although I have yet to try it. If that Link doesn't work, post again and I will try and find the Links to some of the previous threads. Here is one:

Best Wishes, Romilly.
