Could anyone help with a birth record:-

Wiltshire

I think he may have been illegitimate.

Any information would be most appreciated.

Have you looked at www.gro.uk to see if a mothers maiden name is given?

He is on 1881 with mum Elizabeth who is said to be a widow.  Older siblings aged 15 and 11 so a big gap.

For any more details about his birth you will need to order a birth cert.

Do you know who Elizabeth's husband was and when he died? That might clarify things a bit.

Elizabeth's husband James died in 1875, so you need the birth certificate to see if it names Charles father.

1871 is unclear. Husband is indexed as "J. C. Stopgate. "   Image might be "H" Stopgate?

In 1891 living in Monmouthshire with Henry, Albert and C Henry Stopgate
