Joseph Gray mar Elizabeth Sturrock 1916 Dinnington, Northumberland
« on: Thursday 24 November 16 12:10 GMT (UK) »
Hello,
(I am researching on behalf of a friend in Australia)
I am wondering if anyone has Joseph Gray mar Elizabeth Sturrock 1916 Dinnington, Northumberland in their tree.
His age is stated as 26 on his marriage record and his dad as William Gray.
My problem is that there are a couple of Josephs born about 1900 whose dad is William and I am trying to confirm to myself that I have found the right one.
I have a Joseph Gray Christening 09Feb1890, Long Houghton, Northumberland; Father: William Gray Mother: Johanna Gray.
I think that I am on the right track but wow! it would be amazing if anyone else has the same people and could agree that I have the correct people, as well as linking to my friend of course.
Thank you

Hello - wow! thanks for the quick reply.
Sadly I don't have the marr certs.
I just had a bit of luck - or you could say my extensive detective powers have helped.
I looked on freebmd for all births of Gray and Sturrock.
Their first born was Johnann - odd spelling.
But wait a mo... the same name as a Joseph's maternal nan!
So I do have thre right one.
and once again thank you very much.

I looked on freebmd for all births of Gray and Sturrock.

Their first born was Johnann - odd spelling.

The birth entry Dec qtr. 1917 Johnann GRAY has middle initial 'C'

I was wondering if this might be CAMERON the same middle name as two of
Joseph's brothers James & Peter Gray.

Was their mother Johnann's maiden name Cameron?

There is this marriage entry on FreeBMD
Jun 1881 Alnwick   10b   535
CAMERON John Ann
other names on same page
GREY William
Clark Robert Thompson
Ross Annie Bell

1881c John Ann CAMERON (1855) with parents John & Ann plus sibling living Northumberland https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:Q2WM-ZF1C

There's a possible marriage in 1947 Hendon Middlesex for
Johnan C GRAY to A McDERMOTT

and this death entry

Johnan Cameron McDERMOTT died age 70 born 16 Sep 1917
Apr 1988 Hillingdon Middlesex Volume:   13 Page:   842

ADDED - death of Joseph's mother

Dec 1927 Castle W.   10b   391
Johanna GRAY age    73(1854)

Just a wee bit more information to help with the mother Johanna Cameron this looks like her birth
Johanna Cameron born 10 November 1853 Cromarty Rosshire
Father John Cameron ..mother Ann Noble

1861 census address 1 Ardgowan Street Glebe Greenock West Renfrewshire Scotland
John Cameron age 30 born Golspie Sutherland (Seaman R N )
Ann Cameron age 31 born Redcastle Rosshire
Johnann Cameron age 7.  Peter age 3

1871 Census address 38 Coastguard Station Newton Alnwick Northumberland
John Cameron age 38 (coast guard service )
Ann N Cameron age 37
Johnann 16,Peter 13,William 10,Margaret 7, John 5,James 3,Elizabeth 1
Says all born Berwickshire which is wrong ...baptisms for them Fife same parents John Cameron Ann Noble ..
The family must have moved to England after daughter Elizabeth Noble Cameron was born 17/12/1868 Crail Scotland  ...Baptism for Elizabeth 22/5/1870 Embleton Northumberland

Wow! crikey, blimey, Rosie17 and Ladyhawk,
Thank you so very much for all of this information - I am stunned at your generosity in finding this information and passing it all on to me - thank you so very much. I know my friend will also want to thank you, I'll do it on her behalf: thank you -  I've now got back to late 1700s and, with all of your help I can pass even more info on to her.
Best wishes to you both.
