£32/30 Off FTDNA/Ancestry Autosomal Tests
« on: Friday 25 November 16 21:41 GMT (UK) »
I've decided to take the plunge and duplicate my tests on Ancestry.

FTDNA: http://bit.ly/2alqCVA

Ancestry: http://bit.ly/2g0Gmn1 (ends 28 Nov)

Some smaller discounts on y and mt tests on FTDNA.

Just had mine done ( at the old price) and am having a ball searching around. Uploaded to gedmatch. Still getting my head around SNPs and CMs but loving it.

Lot of 4th cousins etc but have been in touch with a few and have confirmed one or two things so it has been worth it.

Good luck. I hope it at least matches what FM  did for you

After ordering a test from FTDNA I got these one-off discount codes:

$50 off Big-y: R15XL1P0J7RN
$10 off y-37, 67, 111: R15YH4S0BOXX

The discount codes each last for a week. They are then replaced by another code for  another random test. This continues up until Christmas. There is a spreadsheet on googlecloud for all unwanted coupons.

@Spike H - Thanks. Is there a group this list of discounts is linked to? It would be useful to have access to it for future sales.

If you mean "group" as in organisation, I've never seen one mentioned. It just seems to be made up of FTDNA members and is for the benefit of everyone. There is no obligation on the user, no advertising, no payment to anyone.
If you don't buy during this sale there will be others (US Father's Day etc), but the additional coupon discounts are generally only available at this time of year.
I think you can also buy a kit and pay for the postage and handling only, then pay for the kit when you activate it.

I duplicated my autosomal on ancestry and ftdna in2015.Ancestry ones I find more relevant. I have tried to upload moms from ancestry and have more but can't load moms.It looks like they ftdna)don't accept any transfers at the moment till they've sorted out ancestrydna new kit problem with ftdna site. I thought I might upgrade to mtdna whilst there's an offer.Last week it would 't accept my coupon for mtdna and I though it may have been because I was upgrading i.e. they already have my sample.Just got a new coupon today and chose to use it against the cheaper mtdna not the full sequence.Yes it applied the coupon but basically I needed to spend more money with the coupon! Not expecting to get much with the mtdna and so I don't want to pay an excessive price. I would probably be better off paying for some cousins to test!

Yes, in terms of helping with matches from the last five or so generations, you would be better off paying for cousins to test. But at least you will know your haplogroup. And you can join FTDNA projects, based on haplogroup, location, surname etc.
