Many thanks indeed for this link. It provides me with all the information I need. I did already post another query about service record abbreviations - (by mistake- should have combined the two queries apparently!)

Your assistance has been most helpful!

Many thanks, ScouseBoy for your help. This seems to confirm what I thought which is that these medals are awarded for participation in a certain region during a particular timeframe.

No question in my mind at all that anyone participating in WWII in any capacity was doing valuable work. I just wanted to find out if the work was physically located "on the front lines" or further back. As he was a driver, it could have been either. His name was Frank Payne and his service # was 235907.

According to a chart on Wiki pedia  that number  within  the range  issued to the RASC.

You may find  that  the prefix T   was infront of that serial number.

My father was in the RASC  during WWtwo,  and he spent most of his time  in Alexandria.    Many  ATS  women  worked  in  Alexandria.

When the Front line   moved towards Alexandria,   they were ordered  to take their  Confidential records  elsewhere.

Small world! Yes, now I see that he has RASC on the front of his Service and Casualty form.

Thanks for sharing, ScouseBoy.
