Hi. I'm trying to decipher the birthplace name of my GG Grandfather Laurence Anderson. All I can make out is the country Norway. The attachment is my G Grandmothers Vida's birth cert. Thanks in advance.

To me it looks like “Flickvord”, so, could it be a variation of “Flekkefjord”, a town and municipality in Vest-Agder county, Norway, according to Wikipedia?

Hi Ian. Laurence was born in 1863. Died in 1902 NZ.

The NZ Resources and Offers site has links to Scandinavian genealogy. Scroll down to Norway and you will find three very good links. I used this site when researching for a friend and received wonderful help from the Norwegian sites. Most of the files  especially parish registers  will be translated for you by the locals into English.

I have tried to look for Laurence without success. There are number of name variations.... Lorenz, Lorens, Lorents and Lorentz. He may not have beed born exactly there.
Here is a link to Flekkefjord Parish. I have searched surrounding Parishes with no luck unfortunately.
