BUCKLEY family, Rochdale
« on: Tuesday 13 December 16 14:44 GMT (UK) »
Has anyone in their researches come across HENRY BUCKLEY (born 1864)? He was my great grandfather's brother, named in my great grandfather's 1940 will as executor. In the document Henry is described as 'retired newsagent' of 7 Davyhulme Street, Rochdale. I'm hoping to trace a descendant --part of my long-lasting search for what became of my grandfather, Henry's nephew. Any leads gratefully received!

Probate Index Entry:

Henry Buckley of 1 Daveyhulme Street Rochdale died 19 April 1947 at The Infirmary Rochdale. Administration to Ivy Buckley widow

As it is Administration, not Probate, there was no Will. Which is a shame as it may have mentioned any children!

The death index for the Henry Buckley that I just found said he was 23, thus born approx. 1924?  So not agreeing with your yr of birth of 1864?  Unless index has an error and it should be 83.

Thank you for that extra information - I certainly knew nothing of Henry's widow Ivy. She must have been a second wife, Henry having married Love Hardman (June Q 1886). Love died in 1930.I know that two children, Reginald and Linda, were born to Henry and Love. I doubt whether the second marriage produced children, but I shall get on and research that! Thanks again

I think the likely death record for Henry is March Q 1951 in Middleton (not far from Rochdale, I think)

But Probate index entry confirms he died in Rochdale, so should be registered there.  Only one reg in that year on Rochdale .... and that is for the 23 yr old.
Strange.

Always the same in family research, isn't it? How one investigation leads to more mysteries! Perhaps I'd be better off trying to trace the descendants of Henry's children. Reginald married Adelaide Rothwell, Bury, 1913. Linda married Eric Collins, Prestwich, 1915 (if I have the right people).

I thought that's what you were trying to do - trace Henry's descendents!!

What year Reginald and Linda born in?  Finding their deaths and potentially Wills might lead you to their children.

Something isn't really tying up here.

When Love dies in 1930, wife of Henry Buckley, Administration is granted to said  Henry Buckley, mill overlooker.  This is in Prestwich. He is already 66, (going by 1864 birth year) so one would have thought he was retired or approaching retirement already.

By 1940 Henry is a retired newsagent in Rochdale?

possible, yes.  But did he really have a second career between 66 and 76?
