McCaffrey, Catherine Agnes

I am looking for information about Catherine Agnes McCaffrey who was adopted.
I know that she married Robert Whitten in July 1914 and died in May 1923.
Is there anyway to find out how?why?when?and by whom she was adopted?

Official adoption in Northern Ireland didn't begin until the 1920s so there's unlikely to be a record of why another family looked after her. In those days 'adoption' was usually just an arrangement whereby relatives, friends or neighbours looked after a child when a parents/parents were not able to do so.

Shown as 'adopted daughter' of Susan Bingham in 1911- age 20 so born c1891-
