Horace served his country in WW1 as Lance Corporal 6076767 The Queens Royal West Surrey Regiment after enlisting at Whitehall on the 30th December 1918. He sadly passed away in Belfast after an operation on a pancreatic cyst.

Horace was the son of William Henry and Elizabeth nee Hayhow Anderson of Barking and a brother to William Edward, Maud, Hilda and Rosie Anderson.

Sadly this looks like his brother William Edward Anderson - 1896 - 31 March 1917 -
tried for desertion and sentenced to death- sentence carried out   
(Never come across one like this before - that was a shocker  )

It was a bit of a shocker to find the other one shot for desertion - a little harsh. Some soldiers were blameless because it was severe psychological trauma, not cowardice, that rendered them physically unable to cope with the shocking scenes they had witnessed.
Hopefully William will eventually get a posthumous pardon.

must have been a nightmare for all involved!
What a traumatic piece of info. when you consider the events of this age/era with no real sentences for real crimes.

I hope if the family were not already into genealogy this will interest them enough to find out more (not meant in a bad way).

How sad....I am both sad and angry that this could have happened....as if war isn't cruel enough
I do hope he is pardoned as many others have been for being "Shot at Dawn"
