record of a NY murder..?

Michael Glespen arrived in NY abt 1845. He was born in Ireland 1824.
The 1850 mortality records for NY register him as 'killed' in August of that year....murdered?
I wonder if anyone has any expertise which might throw some light on the circumstanes of his death, please?

"1850 mortality records for NY register" - was this the mortality schedule from the 1850 census, or something different?

I can see a Michael "Gelispie" on those records listed as "killed" in August (would have been August 1849 because of the way this data was collected, it is the twelve months previous to the census), but not "Glespen".

"Killed" could be a reference to an accident, I see on later schedules where there was more room for info there were causes of deaths such as "killed by fall", "killed by a horse", etc.

I apologise.....the name was Gelispie on the mortality schedule from the 1850 Census and altho a different surname I am inclined to think that it might well have been a Glespen relative. I am unable to find any reference any where else in NY and other places.

Michael arrived on the 'Patrick Henry' in 1848.

Could this be him? Wrong age though says 30 so would have been born 1819.

Regardless of the age, I suspect it might well be him. There were only one or two family members -  bachelors - living in New York with whom he might have been staying at the time, so there could have been some uncertainty re his age. It occurred shortly after his arrival in the US.
