Do you run windows?  If so, click on filename below the 2nd, large version, and chose view file. Then, when the image comes up, rt click on Properties.

Doing this from memory as on Mac  :-X

# Gadget....Yes, I had already done that with your result, also same in 'Paint'.... so I guess the 1200 is somehow  embedded in the file of the image. Maybe it was 1200 before the OP resized and the 1200 info is retained?
The OP emailed me the original huge file, but I found it impossible to work on as every function was so painfully slow. For example, I tried the G'mic de-noise as an experiment. It takes a second or two on a small file.... it took 1hr 11 mins! and was a complete waste of time.

Adobe PS CC 2015.5 shows original camera image as 1200. I think, as you say, it's embedded in the original scan somehow. Not come across it before. Slides can be difficult to scan - and should be scanned at very large resolution. I've done them at 4800 before now.

I'll PM you my e-mail as I'd like to see the original, if you don't mind.

Very odd  ???

The large file that OP sent to Andy is showing 1200 dpi in Preview on my Mac. It's very pixelatated though. Think it's compression but very big - 9 MB.

Added
-I think what might have happened  is that, although Andy was sent the large version (at 1200 dpi) by the OP, it was probably reduced to the standard 72/96 dpi in a 'save for web'/export program to get it within RCs limits. The export/SforW progs don't always say that they reduce dpi as well as do jpg compression.
