Phase 2 is for very quick, very expensive copies and Phase 3 will be for non-digitised marriages but will be c£8 per image rather than the £6 for phase 1.  Really depends how long you want to wait as they have delayed phase 2 already.

Once the three trials are complete GRO will be making decisions about which (if any) of those services become part of their normal ordering options.

I believe the phase 2 trial is due to start very soon.

Bob

Mind you at the Phase 2 price, as per that thread, doubt many Family Historians will be making use of it. :-\  We'll have to wait for Phase 3.

Phase 2 will be for the probate researchers or for people needing an urgent copy of their own certs for legal reasons,  such as applying for passports

edited as the pdf's have no legal standing with regards to passport applications.

In which case the £23.40 service is still the way to go.

For those catching up, no marriages were digitised while the DOVE and MAGPIE projects were underway which is why they won't be as cheap as the births and deaths. Someone at the GRO will have to digitise the entry before sending out on an email as an uncertificated copy.

I'm just wating for deaths after 2007 as that will save me a weekly trip into London.

Why so expensive for transcribed information? The whole lot should be online, and no more expensive than third party genealogy sites, who would be more than happy to undertake the digitisation work.
