William CROXFORD born abt 1791 Chalvey

Looking for early info about a William CROXFORD.

He's on the 1841 census age 45 resident in Upton-cum-Chalvey, Buckinghamshire. Also on 1851 census age 60 born in Chalney (Chalvey), Buckinghamshire, and resident in Eton, Buckinghamshire.

Census records give his date of birth as approximately 1791.

Found four baptism records one of which could be him:

• 02/06/1793 - Ashendon, Buckinghamshire - parents: William & Mary
• 08/03/1789 - Flitton, Bedford - parents: Joshua & Mary
• 16/08/1795 - Wendover, Buckinghamshire - parents: John & Margeret
• 15/09/1799 - Aston Rowant, Oxfordshire - parents: John & Johanna

Thought these places are all 20+ miles from Chalvey so none seem particularly likely to be him.

Can't say, but Ashenden and Wendover are prime suspects. Upton cum Chalvey is basically Slough, Bucks, now Berks since 1974. The road runs parallel to the A4 through Slough but a bit to the South. Further West over the Slough to Eton and Windsor road brings you to Chalvey.

Exercise a little caution with Eton. There was and is very little residential component. The whole area came under the Eton Rural District Council, may still do, with offices at Slough. Eton workhouse was at Slough and is now a hospital.
