Manchester Newspapers? (Assizes Bigamy Case)
« on: Tuesday 24 January 17 20:22 GMT (UK) »
Good evening,

Is anybody aware of which Manchester newspapers, would have normally covered the details of bigamy cases heard at the Manchester Assizes?

The case was held in the Winter Sessions (on 21st Nov 1922). I don't have any local knowledge, so I'm unaware of which newspapers to search.

Thanks so much,
Glen  :)

What was the name? If you don't want to put it on the board, send me a message.

The Manchester Guardian has a report for that date.

All parties are deceased, so I think I can write the names here:

Jarvis George Hinton (AKA George Hinton, John Hinton and other possible names)
Married Sarah Ann Parker in 1907
Then married Mary Alice Kirkham in 1917
Bigamy trial was 21 Nov 1922 at the Manchester Assizes

Thanks for your help!  :)

Thank you so much for the Manchester Guardian clipping!

Would anyone know which other papers I could check for Manchester (in 1922)? I'm hoping a Reporter covered the case.

Thanks for your help,
Glen  :)

Have a look at this link http://www.lastchancetoread.com/docs/1922-07-26-police-gazette.aspx?DocId=2587&Index=D%3a%5cdtSearch%5cwf0066%5cLive%5cIndexes%5cPDFs&HitCount=5&hits=967+96c+9a3+9a7+9ac+

I looked on FindMyPast there are numerous mentions of this person, but not of Bigamy

Suggest you google the name there are numerous research requests on various forums for this person

Just looked at the link given by Elzabels. If George was remanded at Ashton under Lyne, I can look at the Ashton Reporter for you next week.
