Yes that was me, but I would really like to find his obituary if there was one.

I looked in the Los Angeles Times and Orange Co. Register and saw nothing. 

I agree that contacting a local library may be the best bet.  Not every newspaper is online, and local people may know what paper was likely to be used in that area.  There's a contact form here - http://www.ocpl.org/libloc/brea/contact_the_brea_library
