James NUTT (?) born in Fleet, about 1816
« on: Tuesday 07 February 17 11:30 GMT (UK) »
Trying rationalise some contradictory entries in early census returns. We are studying the NUTT family who historically come from Higham Ferrers in Northamptonshire. However, for James NUTT born about 1816 we have:

1841 census - born outside of county (His wife Hannah and mother Mary (widow) both born inside)
1851 census - born in Fleet, Lincolnshire
1861 census - born in Higham Ferrers

We believe his parents were John Nutt (probably 1778 - 1839) buried Higham Ferrers 1839 and
Mary (probably 1777 - 1851) buried Higham Ferrers 1851

A John Nutt married a Hannah Brittles in Higham Ferrers about 1812.

So, the Lincolnshire questions:

1. Is there a baptismal record for James NUTT in the Fleet area of Lincolnshire around 1816 and if so who were the parents?
2. Are Hannah Brittles and Mary ??? the same person? If not did John NUTT marry twice - once in Lincolnshire?

Many thanks - Alan

In Higham Ferrers we have;

1841 Census
James Nutt, 26, not born in County
Hannah Nutt, 26
Mary Nutt, 65

1851 Census
William Nutt, 50, Head, Widr, Ag Lab, born Fleet. Lincolnshire*****
Mary Nutt   75, Mother, Widow, born Ringstead, Northamptonshire
John Nutt   26, Son, Unm, Ag Lab
Hannah Nutt, 17, Daug, Unm

So fits with Baptism in Gedney Hill for William, Mother Mary is buried 6 April age 75
Census was taken 30 March

So Marriage looks correct Rosie found
John seems to be Baptised 1777 to WILLIAM/SARAH in Higham
Possible of FreeREG for Mary Barwick also 1778 Ringstead
(they has another Mary 1776 who was buried a few days later)
