Missing in 1861 - Henry Reeve
« on: Monday 20 February 17 17:42 GMT (UK) »
Henry Reeve was born 20 Apr 1838 in Honingham to Robert and Susan(nah) Reeve (nee Kiddle).

On the 1851 census, he is with his mother and sister in Burgh Road, Mattishall
Susan  REEVE   Head   W   31   F   Pauper   Norwich-Nfk
Henry  REEVE   Son   -   12   M   ---   Honingham-Nfk
Jane  REEVE   Daur   -   10   F   ---   East Tuddenham-Nfk

On the 1871 census, he is with his wife and children in Stoke Holy Cross
Stoke Holy Cross
Henry REEVE  33  Miller Journeyman  Honingham
Emily REEVE  31
George REEVE  14  Norwich
Edward REEVE  8  Norwich

He marries his wife, Emily, on 20 Sept 1868 at Heigham, both giving their addresses as Heigham.  Going by dates and ages of children, it seems as if the children were born before their marriage.

If this all sounds familiar, it is because I have asked for help trying to untangle Emily's life before her marriage http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=742598.0

So, in my wish list for anyone who has a magic wand  ;)
1) Where is Henry in 1861?
2) Under what name was Joseph/Edward (bn c. 1862) registered?

I have Susan Reeve on the 1861 census (household of Francis Gunton in Mattishall), but I don't have Jane Reeve after the 1851 census.

Many thanks in advance for any help!

By 1861 she was around 20 - did she marry before the 1861 census?  Have you investigated the 1860 marriage on freebmd?

It's a bit inconclusive - she gives her age as 18, which would be slightly out but not inconceivable, and she doesn't name her father on the marriage cert.

That said, her POB on the 1861 is given as Mattishall, and on the 1871 is given as Tuddenham.  Unfortunately, she's not with her missing brother on the 1861 which would be helpful!!!

I'm just glad that he has been found now!

Now to see if I can inch Emily and Henry together before 1868 so that I can work out if Henry is the father of Joseph Edward..........

Thank you, amondg.  Sadly Robert dies shortly after Jane's baptism (death registered Dec qtr 1840), leaving Susanna with Henry and Jane (aged 3 and 1 on the 1841 census) which must have been tough.  "Widow Reeve" is mentioned a few times in the poor rate book between 1843 and 1856.
