Could this be the former Pontypool Workhouse, situated on Coedygric Road?
It had an Infirmary.

I have heard of other workhouses using a different name/address when referring to the Infirmary on certificates! ;D

Remember that this was pre-NHS, and probably the only hospital care affordable?
It doesn't mean that she was an inmate!

I think what you say about certificates could be right,But regarding affordability i would say she could not afford anything.

My father's birth certificate had a street address on it - someone on here knew why - it had previously been a lunatic asylum which had been turned into a maternity home for the post war baby boom

I think it was a bit of face saving for the families

In Pontypridd at the time a lot of the miner's families had a deal in that if they paid a penny a week they were covered for hospital care in the workhouse infirmary - wouldn't be surprised if the same didn't apply in Pontypool
