Lookups needed for a couple of Surrey Marriages please!

Hi all,

Having trouble finding the original records of a couple of family marriages, can anyone help please?

My 4x gt grandparents William Hersey & Mary Caroline Chilman married according to familysearch on 19th July 1822 at Sutton by Croydon, Surrey. Was this at the earlier St Nicholas Church, Sutton? The current one being built on the site of an earlier church in 1862/64.

My 5x gt grandparents George Chilman and Sarah Field married (again according to familysearch) on 26th Sept 1797 at St Andrews, Cobham, Surrey. Ancestry only goes back as far as 1813.

There is a marriage bond/allegation dated 25 September 1797 on ancestry for George Chilman of Ashstead St Giles to marry Sarah Field Of Cobbam Surrey. George made his mark to sign the document. The other signer was William Spencer of Cobbam.

Many thanks for that, Not quite sure how I missed it! Different spelling of the surname may have had a small part to play but strange thing is that when I checked the list of parishes, St Nicholas, Sutton didn't show within that list! Confused to say the least!

Trish, many thanks for the burial & baptism info, very much appreciated. I didn't have the burial info so thanks for that, i did have the baptisms tho. I think that you could well be right re the baptism for Sarah Field in Cobham in 1779.

Sorry I may be wrong there re Sarah Field 1779 as Henry/Sarah Baptise Twins Sarah/Jane 1785.
There is also a Burial for a Sarah Field, infant, 1783, Daug of Henry/Sarah.

Have finally got the above marriage record, Ancestry don't half make it difficult sometimes! Grrrr! Listed seperately from the rest of the Surrey records & listed within Sutton Surrey records, a completely seperate set of records! On top of that the Bishops Transcript of the marriage is listed within the London records as a parish not within a borough & William Hearsey (Hersey) is transcribed as Kearney of all things!
