Thomas & Martha BATEUP
« on: Friday 24 February 17 07:35 GMT (UK) »
Thomas and Martha BATEUP arrived in Sydney in 1839 on the Morayshire, from Brede in Sussex. They had one daughter with them, Sarah. Three sons and another daughter were born in Sydney. They were married in Hastings, Sussex in 1836, Martha's maiden name being RICHARDSON.

Have been through NSW BDMs and Trove and found some info, mainly spouses of the children.

Martha was the 2nd daughter of Thomas RICHARDSON and Mercy FURNER, and was born in Brede in 1816. An older brother Thomas, and two younger ones James and Henry all came to New Zealand. A couple of trees on Ancestry have their other brother William also coming to Australia, but so far have found nothing to confirm this.

There were two other sisters, Mercy and Sarah, but so far have found nothing on them.

Anyone researching this family, particularly on Martha's side, the RICHARDSONs.

Thanks
Ian C

Have you searched on Trove Newspapers, Ian?
If you put Thomas Bateup into the advanced search engine, you'll find quite a few family notices, including the death of Thomas, as well as some other results.

Many thanks. I had found a couple of the items on Trove but not all of them.

Have also found confirmation that Martha's brother William did come to Australia as well, sometime about 1838.
