King or Trowbridge relatives
« on: Monday 27 February 17 11:52 GMT (UK) »
As a boy (born 1948) growing up in Belfast I was always told stories of relative who lived in Australia. Alas at that age I did not pay much attention to this but now I'm left wondering who these folk were. Were they on my Grandfather's side (King) or my Grandmother's side (Trowbridge). Where in Australia did they live and what did they do?

Any help would be great.

Hi Jardiner,
Rootschatters will need a bit more information to be able to help, names, time frames, occupations etc.
Looking at your previous posts, the KING line were cabinet makers, but you have not indicated which, if any of these KING cabinet makers actually came to Australia, so we are operating in the dark here. But just to wet your appetite, here are some mentions of KING cabinet makers in newspapers

CABINET WORK.-Mr T. J. King, cabinet-maker of Circular Head, has just completed a very handsome miniature cabinet of the various woods of Tasmania. It is about two feet six inches square, and the same height, and is for the Melbourne Intercolonial Exhibition. It has several drawers closed in by folding doors, the front having on each corner two turned supporting pillars, also of various woods. It is certainly a very beautiful piece of workmanship, and well worth a visit of inspection.

Dear cupoflife

You're right but alas I've based my post on adults talking when I was a child 50+ years ago. What is intriging is the list of Kings you've provided that were cabinet makers and now has me wondering if there was another family member unaccounted for. The last William King (Cabinet maker) was in 1865 and the business it seemed died with him as know one in the family took it on. He did have a son  William ( 1833-1896?) and he was a french polisher and guilder but lived in Cumberland. However what is interesting  is he married Mary Cora Waller in 1879 and yet I can find no records of children. Could they have gone to Australia?? I feel the relatives that were spoken about in my childhood were more recent emigrants and I now think they were female and possibly Isabella or Rosemary Trowbridge and were possibly married. ( married names unknown)
