John Palin
« on: Monday 06 March 17 10:57 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for the parents of John Palin b.1758 in Welbourn and christened at St. chad's church. I believe his father was Thomas but have various ideas for his mother including Ann and Mary. The spelling of Paling does vary and can be Paling or Pailing.
Thank you to anyone who can help me with this.

There's a marriage here, about 6 lines from bottom of right page

Today I broke my personal record for most consecutive days alive.

I am directly descended from the Palins of Welbourn.  I recorded years ago, using microfilm of the parish registers (I think) through the Mormons, that John Palin bp 1758 was the son of Thomas Rex Palin (g) and his wife, Mary.  I shall check my records again.

My direct ancestor was Martin Palin bp 1792.  Regards, Gazania

There was also a John Payling, son of Thomas and Ann, baptised at Welbourn on 9th February 1762.

Hi,

I see we have been in contact before in 2011-2012:

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=531872.msg3864132#msg3864132

I am just going through my very old notes:  I have recorded the instances for Palin (g) from the microfilm of Welbourn parish register for 1689-1733. I have made a note that the early parts were unreadable.  Also of interest, I have noted that Thos Paling was buried 23 Oct 1729.  And from Lincs Past, Thos Paling, a yeoman, left a will dated 1729.

I think I made the assumption that this Thomas could have been our earliest (unconfirmed) ancestor.

I hope this is helpful.  Gazania

Yes thank you Gazania. My Palin notes have got in such a mess that I have started this family strand from scratch! I have been trying without success to access the info on Lincs past but although I have registered I just get a blank screen. I think it could be to do with the fact I'm using an iPad and it maybe doesn't have the right software.

Hi,

I too have problems with Lincs Past even on my desktop.  Having poor eyesight does not help, having to enlarge everything. Otherwise, my computer works very well for me.

However, I have just made an amazing (for me) discovery  with familysearch.org   I have joined/registered for free (see top of page on website).  Welbourn parish is well transcribed and corresponds with my old records.  Even more amazing are the family trees, complete with sources and email addresses of those contributing, by ?relatives unknown to me.  My branch is documented from John b 1858, right down to my grandmother.  Martin Palin was my gggrandfather. (brother of your George).

Regards, Gazania
