Understanding service record AMPC unit

Good Morning

I have my grandfathers ww11 service record i am having trouble understanding it. In the unit section it says he was in 1,AMPC  but on the middle section there are other descriptions such as No 5, AMPC, 111, boy AMPC  no 37,  coy AMPC . The date ranges from 27th November 1939 to 10th July 1940 when he was posted to the M.G.T.C  with the middlesex regiment.

Can anyone please help me understand what this means

The Auxiliary Military Pioneer Corps was the fore runner of the Pioneer Corps (later Royal)and these look like different companies (coy) of the Corps.
MGTC would be one of the Machine Gun Training Centres perhaps at No 26 at Saighton and Blacon Camps in Cheshire, the Middlesex certainly trained there at some time

thank you for replying, would there be war dairies for this unit and would i need to look under the AMPC or individual units for example no 37 coy

its so frustrating i know there is a lot of information on these service records but i might as well be reading Chinese !

At the National Archives:
1 Company Sep 1939- May/Jun 40 is WO 167/1237
5 Company 1939- Apr 40 is WO 167/1241
111 Company Jan- May 1940 is WO 167/1331
37 Company 1939- Jun 40 is WO 167/1273

The record should have dates associated with those companies so you should look at each of the dates to see which are relevant to your grandfather.

Hi, Can anyone tell me if there are war diaries for the No 5 AMPC unit that trained at Liverpool. I believe they served in France in 1939/1940 before they were evacuated back to Wembly Park. I'm trying to find my husbands grandfather who served in that Corps in 1939/1942.
