Elizabeth Phoebe ROSS

Hello All,
Doing a bit of research for another family member.
Elizabeth Phoebe (Bessie) married John Little, a blacksmith of Woodend, North Canterbury, in 1895, and had 4 children.
Died March 1939 and buried at Bromley, Christchurch.
Burial record says she had lived in NZ for 62 years which means that she arrived aged 8 in 1877 or thereabouts.
Family member thinks she came from the USA.
Can anyone help with her parents names, and arrival.

Your best bet for details of her parents etc would be her marriage printout.

If you search NZ BMD there are other Children for a JOHN/SARAH Ross;
Hugh Benjamin 1878
John Alexander 1880
Lillian 1881
Ann Fraser 1885
Possibly the same Family.

Elimination:

Above family well documented in family trees :   

John ROSS (b. SCO) married Sarah JOHNSON (b. Middlesex, ENG) - 1877  - at Waipukurau, Hawke's Bay.   Children (as listed ^) all born at Napier or Hastings.
Family moved to Australia, late 1886 (another dau. born Aus).
All died in Australia.

Being born in 1868 you might expect your lady to appear in the 1870 US census but the best I can find is the following...

And as the1870 census mentions a nine year old son born in Pennsylvania there's a chance John and Sarah would have been there for the 1860 US census.

The 1860 census says John and Sarah married that year which would tie in with the above Joseph F ROSS being born in 1861.

And they seem to be living with a THOMSON family - maybe Sarah's siblings?

Sarah's parents are given as Joseph and Elizabeth THOMPSON so that may well be the correct John and Sarah ROSS in the 1860 census, that I mentioned above. They were living with a THOMSON family.
