Occupation (?) in 1693 will
« on: Tuesday 27 July 04 18:20 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone. I have a 1693 will where some one is called a capper. Does any one know what this would be? He lived at Bewdley in Worcs if that is any help.

Hi Gardener,
Capper is someone who makes caps, usually for the working class. . site to your favourites, it's very useful  http://www.gendocs.demon.co.uk/trades.html

Thanks for that Jane. I just wonder if it had some other older meaning? Making caps for the working class makes me think of some poor woman slaving away for next to nothing but this man left a house and so on. May be he employed lots of poor women.....and got rich from it ;)

Jane,

Just had a look at that link,  it is great,  made me laugh out loud at some of the occupations.

If you have not already,  add it to the useful links.   ;D
