Soldier in the Family
« on: Thursday 16 March 17 22:16 GMT (UK) »
Hi Rootschatters,

I have a potential soldier going back in the family to around about 1800 - but sadly this is not confirmed.

He was the father of Mary Johnston. She was born around 1793 in Marnoch, Banffshire.

On her death in 1872 her father is described as Alexander Johnston, Soldier.
When her husband remarried a year later she was listed as the 'daughter of Thomas(?) Johnston, Pensioner. (Which I take to mean a Chelsea Pensioner).

Would some kind person be able to help me make the link to this potential solder?

Kind Regards,

There an Alexander JOHNSTON on Findmypast, a Corporal in the Hampshire Regiment, born Linlithgow, Fife in 1751, discharged in 1791 after serving sixteen years.

Unfortunately records of that era don't give family information.

I have not looked under alternative spelling if Johnston, or looked under Thomas Johnston.
