Lookup Request for two Ronald Davies Marriages in the 1940's
« on: Saturday 18 March 17 12:54 GMT (UK) »
Hi, can anybody help? I'm interested in two marriages, both involving a Ronald Davies. They both take place in Oldham, one in 1943 to a Margaret R Bryson. The other is in 1945 to a Martha A Fishwick.

I can find them in Ancestry, but I would need to order the certificates which I can't afford at the minute  :P

I was wondering if anyone would be able to find anything out about either/both of these weddings?

Cheers

LancashireBMD reports:
The 1943 marriage was "Register Office or Registrar Attended".
Likewise the 1945 marriage.

If the marriages took place at a Register Office, then your only option is to buy a certificate. The information simply isn't available any other way.

"Registrar Attended" could mean a Catholic, or Non-Conformist marriage, where the officiating minister wasn't deemed to be a Registrar (C of E ministers are always deemed to be a Registrar).
Consequently, the Registrar had to attend the place where the marriage took place.

Parish Registers, of any denomination, are unlikely to be online for marriages this recent?

I think your only option is to splash out? ;D

Oldham Local Studies Library hold some registers?

BUT, all the Catholic Marriage Registers only go up to 1941.

Unless you get lucky and find a notice in a local paper.
I tried a quick googlesearch for Oldham marriage Davies AND 1943 Bryson OR 1945 Fishwick but didn't see anything obviously relevant.

[yes, it can be an expensive hobby - but it's cheaper than my cousin's hobby (beer drinking) and the pleasure lasts longer!]  :P
Please help me to help you by citing sources for information.
