Leek/Penkridge desperation 41/51/61
« on: Thursday 28 July 05 11:36 BST (UK) »
I am trying to locate a family who know to have been living in this area.

1871 living at 80 Station street I think Burton upon Trent

1881 same address

I'm trying to find them on an earlier census 41/51/61

I have looked myself on 1861 census and the name just is n't coming up I think it must have wrongly transcribed.

The Family are

John Henry Godkin born 1813/14 Wexford Ireland

Elizabeth Godkin Cork Ireland 1820/21 maybe earlier (sometimes down as Penelope Elizabeth)
Emily Frances Godkin 1856 Leek (IGI baptism 1851)
Leonard Godkin (sometimes Archibald Leonard) June 1849 Leek
Arthur John Godkin 1856 Penkridge

Emily Frances marries in 1880 and moves to Stockton the rest of the family seem to stay in that area.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi,

I've got the 1851 for Penkridge and the surname index for Staffordshire.  There isn't a Godkin in Penkridge, but there is one in Leek on Piece 2008 page 332.  You will need to find someone with access to this piece to get the details.  That is the only GODKIN in the name index.

There is also a Robert Robotham Godkin baptised Penkridge 1853, and a marriage for a Elizabeth Penelope Robotham in Wolstanton in 1848. No name given for spouse. Both of these are from Ancestry's bmds.

Hi Rowdy,

If you are still looking for information, John Henry Godkin is my great great great grandfather.  Not that I have much information prior to John, which would be useful for me if you have anything.

Thanks,
Alex
