Jane Wright Widnes
« on: Sunday 02 April 17 03:23 BST (UK) »
Hi, I'm trying to find an 1871 census for a Jane Wright born 1856 in Widnes to Richard and Ann Wright (nee Shaw).  I have her in the 1861 census (aged 5) staying with her grandparents James ( a Publican) and Catherine Shaw. I'm led to believe through family she married a Paul Caldwell and have found a Mary Jane Wright marriage to a Paul Caldwell in 1888 and lists her father on the cert as being Richard and a labour (which he shows up on all other censuses as). However not sure if this is all correct  :-\ .
Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks Solidrock for ensuring my sanity is in check...some would doubt it.  I have gone over all my censuses yet again and from 1871 onward it does appear she used Mary as her first name. Thank you so much for double checking for me, very much appreciated.

Where did you get the name Jane Wright from please?

Strangely I can't find any birth for a Wright with mother's maiden name of Shaw in Prescot district in 1855 or 1856

There is a Maria Wright registered in 1856 in Runcorn with mmn Shaw but no other Wright/Shaw births in the area between 1854 and 1858 on the GRO website.

lancsann: In 1861 she was staying with her grandparents which is her mother’s parents Ann Wright (nee Shaw) at the age of 5 and is listed as Jane Wright. Then in the 1871 census she is again staying with her grandparents as Mary Jane Wright (occupation Pupil Teacher) which had thrown me. All other censuses show her by Mary Jane as Solidrock listed.

sorry - I missed looking at the 1861

I suspect none of Richard & Ann's children were registered (apparently common in the Liverpool area at that time) as I could not find any of the other children registered either
