Look up help William Cox
« on: Monday 08 May 17 02:37 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I'm having difficulty looking up the military records for William H Cock/Cox. He was born in between 1888-1890 in Batcombe, England. I've been told by family members that he died in WW1. I haven't been able to find any of his military records or find him listed on WW1 memorials. His parents are Abraham and Mary Emily Baker. Any assistance would be amazing!
Thanks.

There is no Commonwealth War Graves entry for either name or a Soldiers' Effects Register entry that can be linked to the parents or the place.
There are no other military records in either name that can be linked (so far).

As Jomot has pointed out, the COX with a Batcombe connection was serving up to 1923 (and may well have been the one who enlisted again in 1938.

Teresabc may turn up some other clue with a relationship.

Apologies for not getting back sooner,my great uncle Samuel Cock listed on the war memorial I Batcombe appears to be a cousin of your ancestor William. Their fathers were John and Abraham cock both of batcombe and their parents were Richard and Caroline Cock nee Portnell

Bowser hasn't been on the site since 2017 so this may be a waste of effort but the William Henry Cox cited by Jomot was still living in the same area in 1939, married to Mary E (Padfield possibly).
