AM i allowed to post on a board a request to find the mother of a friend who was adopted at birth
in 1953?  He's looking for birth mother but only has a little information, name, where she was living and occupation?

Its against the rules to post details of anyone who could still be alive

So you would only be able to ask for general advice on the topic, nothing specific
Wainwright - Yorkshire
Whitney - Herefordshire
Watson -  Northamptonshire
Trant - Yorkshire
Helps - all
Needham - Derbyshire
Waterhouse - Derbyshire
Northing - all

thanks, she could still be alive am guessing, he was just wondering if he could find anyway of knowing if she was still alive but impossible as she coud have remarried or anything,  he may consider doing it officially now.

If she has an unusual name you could try looking on Freebmd or somewhere like Ancestry for a marriage or death, but if it is a common one that probably wouldn't be of much use.

Our guidelines for posting contains links for finding living people

http://www.rootschat.com/help/posting_guide.php

other than those, if your friend hasn't done so already, register with the GRO

https://www.gov.uk/adoption-records/the-adoption-contact-register

or here

http://www.adoptionsearchreunion.org.uk/default.htm

or here

http://www.missing-you.net/categories/adoptions.php

in the hope that she is looking for her child.

The chatters here aren't trained intermediaries and historic adoptions were of a hugely sensistive nature, any advice we give can only be general.

Has your friend had access to their adoption file?

Hi, If your friend has access to his adoption file then the authority he received it from will be able to point him to their origins service. Some authorities charge for services but it is not expensive. It can take a long time for information to be received. Good luck
