Edward Mewes

Died 1640 in Souldrop, Bedfordshire.  I'd love to find out where he is buried as we are planning to spend a month in England next year with the intentions of visiting as many "old" family sites as we can.  Wife was Margery Aucocke who died in 1663.  Thank you so very much!

As per the parish record transcript...

Edward Mewes was buried in Souldrop on 12 Mar 1640-41; however there is no mention of him or any other Mewes on the Monumental Inscriptions as transcribed by the Beds FHS, so finding a grave for him is unlikely.

There is no burial in or around 1663 ** at Souldrop or elsewhere recorded for his wife Margery (ne Aucocke) who he married at Thurleigh on 18 Apr 1631 where the entry does not state he is widower. ** I've see this online being in Thurleigh on 17 Mar 1663 ... however that's not proven in my opinion; there is Thurleigh transcript burial entry on 17 Mar 1663-64 of a Widow HEWES 

There are other PR entries for Edward and/or Edmund Mewes at Souldrop, although it is hard to determine if this is the same person...

9 Aug 1625 Mary wife of Edmund Mewes buried

Thank you so much for all this information.  I have previously researched my husband's Rutland family (to a small degree) in England, but am really trying to get my act together on my Mewes/Muse family.  This information is incredibly helpful and I really appreciate your assistance.  Obviously, I was hoping to locate a gravesite somewhere but I realize that this was many, many years ago. I will 'sally forth' and keep digging.  Thank you again!

while Edward Mewes, eldest son (of Margy Mewes) will seal the deal, will clear off Robert Brooks & give William Evans peaceable posession on Lady Day

Now I've not found any Mewes surnames in Olney, as per the parish registers supplied by Bucks FHS
Nor have we got a baptism of this eldest son Edward

So I'm not sure if this is your Margery Mewes but it could well be !

Hmm.  I don't have a son named Edward but the naming conventions of the time tell me that there should be one.  Just because I don't have him in my tree, doesn't mean this isn't her or that the eldest son Edward doesn't exist.  Thanks for this additional information.  It's very much appreciated!
