Louisa / Lucya Buswell Great Creation 1840's
« on: Monday 05 June 17 10:35 BST (UK) »
Hello

I am hoping that somebody might be able to help me, I am searching for information for Louisa Buswell.

She was born in 1845 in Great Creaton. On Family Search someone has attributed her parents as  Edward Buswell and Harriet Buswell, but have not left any source for this link.

On the 1851 Census Edward Buswell, Aged 31, Clipston, Baker, Widower and a daughter Lucya Buswell, Aged 5, in Great Creaton
So the dates match for her in terms of age.

However I can not find a marriage registration for Edward Buswell and Harriet ?
A death certificate for Harriet
Or census information on Louisa / Lucya Buswell for 1861, (by 1871 census she marries John Gardiner)

I have found an 1861 census for Edward Buswell, (Dates & Places match) he is married to Mellia, but they have a 12 year old son. which does not tally with the 1851 census information.

Any help on this would be really appreciated
Cheers
Karen

Welcome to Rootschat, Karen :)

You say Louisa was born in 1845; given that Great Creaton fell within Brixworth registration district this registration looks likely:

Louisa Buswell, mother's maiden name Buswell: Mar qtr 1846 Brixworth vol 15 p245.

An early 1846 registration is consistent with a late 1845 birth, given the 6-week time limit for registration.

Edward Buswell married Harriot Buswell, Mar qtr 1845 Market Harborough 15 209.

Note the spelling of the bride's first name, which may explain why you didn't find it easily.

Harriet/Harriett/Harriot/Harriott were used interchangeably at the time; the spelling of names in the 19th century was very fluid, even for the same person.

Hi.

Louisa is on the 1861 Census at Kibworth Beauchamp as an App to a Milliner/Dressmaker.

Last but one on the page.

There is  marriage for Edward Buswell to Maria Anne Earp Jun 1852 Shardlow R.D.
This would match with the 1861/1871 censuses which shows Maria Ann previously of Melbourne, Derbys.

This son is Walter noted as 2 on the 1851 census already noted by avm228
He is on the page after Louisa.
