1841 Census Lookup Please For The Rossiters Of Butlerstown, Cork
« on: Sunday 31 July 05 08:04 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I am looking for information about James Rosseter born in Butlerstown, Cork. Not sure of his date Of birth but he came to England and married Sushan ( Correct spelling) Mary Handley at Stretton-On-Fosse, Gloucester on February 28th 1834.

Some of his younger children were born there so I would appreciate details of all Rosseters living there please.

Any information greatly appreciated. TIA.

Best wishes

Hi,

The 1841 census does not survive in Ireland. Only fragments of later censuses survive until 1901, the earliest surviving complete census. This is not indexed so you need an approximate address. 1911 census is also released. These are available at the National Archives in Dublin and on film at your local family history centre. (Church of the latter day saints) http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/FHC/frameset_fhc.asp

See http://www.censusfinder.com/ireland.htm for census fragments and alternative sources.

For James, I would try parish records. Do you know his religion? Is this Butlerstown near Middleton? There are also Butlerstowns in Lislee, Clonakilty and Clontead, Kinsale.

This are Middleton catholic record details.

Hi Kate,

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, I know very little about James. As far as I know he came from Butler in Ireland but as I couldn't find that it was suggested to me that it might have been an abbreviation for Butlertown hence the posting. Two of his children were also born there but it ewas always recorded as Butler with no further clues as to where it was.

I'll check out the sites you suggest and see what I can find. Thanks again for your help.

Best wishes
