John Copland 1749-1818 being baptised at age of 26?

I have in my tree John married to Elizabeth Roan or Rowan with father of same name 1700-1799. I know these dates as they were on a headstone...no mother on headstone, just the father so my trouble is I haven't got a mother for John 1749 . Someone on Ancestry has John being baptized in 1775 at the age of 26 therefore giving him a mother by the name of Margaret Herries. Wouldn't have thought that someone would get baptised that late in life.
Can anyone find me a mother for John please

I've seen late baptisms before.
was it shortly before he got married by any chance?
