I think Layer de la Haye might be a little far away (around 25 miles or so?).

Can't see a baptism in Great Waltham, but there is a Mary GENTRY bap in Bocking (about 9miles, so maybe still a bit far?) on 19 July 1801 (born 6 May 1801) to Joseph and Esther GENTRY on FreeReg.

Can't see her on the census, is she married?

Hi
thanks for your reply, yes my Mary Gentry married John Leonard Lewis in Stratford in 1824, he died in 1829 and she remarried in 1834 in Wanstead to John Dance. She didn't remarry again so I don't get any clues from her marriages, unfortunately!
It might be that she thought she was born in Great Waltham but only brought up there, so I think that it would worth my while having a look at the Bocking entry, so thanks for mentioning it.
Helen

Interestingly, she is down as a spinster when she marries John dance 10 Feb 1834 in Wanstead. Witness is Mary combers. None signed for themselves.

Sorry I was being too general, the first marriage was 16 May 1824 at Stratford Bow St Mary.
And for the second marriage the groom didn't give his full name so a little matter of marriage status does not surprise me!

On her marriage cert of 1824 it was witnessed by Mary Lewis and John Dance - was he her second husband, and the census for 1841 to 1861 shows them living in Barking, where John was born, the latter two census she states she was born Great Waltham. The church Stratford Bow St Mary comes under Middlesex.

There is a family having children in Great Waltham at the time Samuel Gentry/Jentry who married Elizabeth Melborne (minor) by license 18 April 1795.

There is no Mary however I'm not sure all the children were baptized at Great Waltham because in 1841 and 1851 census  Elizabeth is living with a son Joseph and I can't find his baptism record at Great Waltham even though all state born there.
Elizabeth Gentry was buried 9 May 1854 aged 84.

I checked Little Waltham as well and no luck there either.

At Great Waltham
Susannah bap 5 March 1797  (Jentry)
Samuel bap 7 Feb 1802 (Jentry)
James bap 29 April 1804 (Jentry)
Charlotte bap 2 March 1807 (Jentry)
James bap 9 December 1810 (Gentry)

Daughter Charlotte married Thomas Jolliffe 1 November 1831 Great Waltham.
