Hello are there any regular visitors to the national archives who would be kind enough to do a lookup please.

I am looking for more information on the following:

Reference:   FO 939/90

Date:   1947
Held by:   The National Archives, Kew

Former reference in its original department   CO Files 152/9

What is this document, what sort of detail does it provide, what sort of size is it etc

Strange. If he served after 1941 there should be a least a CRS 10 for him. This would give you the names and/or the official number of his ships. With dates and place's of engagement and discharge. Armed with this information you could then go on further to look at Crew agreements and logbooks to find a fuller picture of his MN career. Could you give us your dads full name date and place of birth.

Hi seaweed I already asked

But the reply is that some of the records are imcomplete or lost

Yes they can give lots of detail, unless you are one of the unlucky ones (that's me)

Thanks for your reply anyway

The actual request was for something different, a kind poster is looking up a record for me about a pow camp and I was simply stating that I want a gerneral synopsis of what is in it as depending on the content I might buy it.

I could buy it but it might having nothing in it at all.

I know you could also pay the site to have a quick look for you again if it is 20 pages fair enough but if only 5 words then works out expensive

Unfortunately the description gives no clue to its content

Regards

Hi there

It's an Inspection report of the English Language Classes at the camp conducted by Major WM Browne

EDIT: Major Browne ran the camp, a Mr RD Miller was the Inspector

Of the 61 Germans/Austrians in the Main Camp, 9 were having 2 English lessons a week at Beginner level

There were also 46 at a hostel 50 miles away at South Gare Detachment nr Redcar, of which 12 had 2 lessons a week at Beginners Level

It's an A3 sheet of paper folded in half. It does list the 2 teachers (HP Pechmann
from Stuttgart, and H D Sadee from Berlin) but my photo didn't come out very well. If that's what you're interested in, happy to do it properly next month. Otherwise I have photos of the rest.

Hello Steve

Thanks for looking, I am developing a web site "boldonwm.uk" with one of the topics being the east boldon camp which had several different uses.

So I am after as much info on it as I can, so the info you provided was good as it gave camp commander and approx number of POWs.

Did you say there was only 1 A3 page in the document? Any legible pictures would be useful if only to get extra information such as dates etc

Regards
