The place in question was Bewick Road - number 93 - a transcription error. Sorry.

My father, Peter Lornie, is listed in the 1939 National Register as living there with his step parents - Alice and Leonard Cross.

My grandparents were married in 1903 and lived in 23 Leopold Street (named after one of Victoria's sons). My grandmother grew up in 36 Leopold Street, then the family moved to number 23
The family then moved to 22 Prospect Terrace and were living there, with her family (Glovers) at the time of the 1911 census.

After my grandparents died my father went to live with step-parents in Bewick Road.

I have all my facts right now and hope you might be able to assist me with the location of Prospect Terrace.

sorry solidrock, but I don't think that's the correct Prospect Terrace, its too far away from central Gateshead

I looked at the enumerators description of the district for the family in 1911 as GeordieinOz posted and it was in Central Gateshead.

Geordie, the boundaries were North: middle of Bensham Rd, East: middle of Coatsworth Road, South: middle of Claremont Street, West: middle of St Cuthbert's Place and footpath leading to Bensham Road. Quite a small area.

If you look on that map at the area described, Prospect Terrace is between Bensham Road and Claremont Street, just below Bloomfield Terrace (Not to be confused with Prospect St just to the right.) Its not easy to spot as the map wont zoom out any more. Stan is a whizz at maps and may well be able to find you a better one.

Sorry, meant to say if you look at the details of the enumeration district - separate database on Ancestry, link at bottom of screen on FindMyPast says 'related images' it lists each street in the district the family is in

I have found a photo of demolition in Prospect Terrace in the 60's as part of the slum clearance programme. So much of old Gateshead has disappeared, but not the memories.

The map greatly appreciated.

What an excellent site you have found. That is an amazing map and is just what I wanted to be able to see, that is, old Gateshead compared to the streetscape of today. I am a long way away but one day I hope to return to see for myself what is left and what has changed.
