Harris Marriage Help
« on: Sunday 13 August 17 09:43 BST (UK) »
Morning all,

By trial and elimination I think I have stumbled across a possible marriage I wasn't aware of:

If anyone has access to the details of the marriage of William John Harris and Susanna Holt
Lambeth 4 209 Mar quarter 1840.

I need the following about William if possible,:
Bachelor/Widower?
Occupation?
Fathers Name and occupation?

Thanks in advance :)

William John Harris married Julia Ann Lewis;  no Susanna Holt shown on the FreeBMD entry.

That WJ Harris (bachelor) is shown as a bricklayer, same occupation as his father John.

Sorry Rosie.

I have so many Williams and Georges I searched the wrong one.

I'm looking for a George Harris marrying a Susanna between 1839-1841.

Reason is I have the 1851, 1861 census and both show Susanna being  15 odd years younger than him. Also Susanna would have been 12 when she had a couple of My William's older brothers !!!

I assume this is the family in 1851
H0107/1563 f512 p51

George Harris   45
Susanna Harris   30
Charles Harris   18
Thomas Harris   16
Ann Harris   14
William Harris   12
Arrid Harris   9
Caroline Harris   3
all children except Caroline bn Walworth - Caroline bn St Georges (Southwark I assume)

From the childrens ages I would think it likely that Susanna was mother to Caroline and the others were children of Georges first wife  :-\

Spot on with the census Rosie.

So I did a search on Marriages for George Harris marrying a Susanna between 1838 and 1841 (yep a late one but thought it prudent to cover all bases)

Only one marriage matches:
Dec Quarter 1839 14 511.  Wandsworth &c.
George Harris
Susanna Durham.

If This is the right couple then, Arrid and Carline would be their children. Not sure if William would have been.

If (yes a lot of ifs) on the marriage William is a Widower or divorcee that might explain things. Also Maybe the marriage shows if William's birth place/parish as Hampshire then that'd be good too.

The Harris' were all Ostlers, Cabmen, Horsekeepers and such likes.

Thanks for the help Rosie.

In case it could lead to George’s first marriage, there is a group baptism that matches the children’s names

30th June 1837 Walworth
Charles Harris born 1831
Thomas Harris born 1834
Hannah Harris born 1837
Parents George Harris & Harriet

That's cool thanks. It could yet lead to William's parentage. William being born C1839.

These Harris' have been confusing me for donkeys years.
