Hi Trish.....
John Thornton born 1818 died January 1840 aged 22 Swansea, Glamorgan, Wales, this was the same year that his son, John Henry Thornton was born.....sad
John Thornton was the one married to Mary Ann Roberts.
Mary Ann remarried 5 yrs later in Oct 1845 to Samuel Ross Dessieu Lash - who also died 5 yrs later in 1850...wow.
It is the above John Thornton whose parents I cannot find...also Mary Ann Roberts mother..her father I believe was William Roberts ... possibly married or lived with a Catherine Tucker
?? so that maybe her mother.
I also believe that the surname of Outerbridge is incorrect (which doesn't help eh) and on the 1851 Census it shows them as Stephen and Ann Cuterbridge living with them was Mary Ann Lash ex Thornton (nee) Roberts was living there with her then 10yr old son John Henry Thornton.
I have all the info. on John Henry Thornton as this was my friends great grandfather..
Some of the info is incorrect when you research and it gets so confusing.
Thank you for the information about Mary Ann leaving everything to her son John Henry Thornton, my friend will be very interested in that. Funny, because Swansea is in Wales (maybe next door). I'm in Aust so I haven't travelled to Wales only England....wish I had.
How do I get her will in 1861......is it on Ancestry?
And no, John Thornton's 14th Oct 1838 marriage does not mention father/mother.. I've checked Free Family Search as well....need more research if possible LOL
I think that the wrong John Thornton has confused you with his death showing him 11 yrs old.
And the John Thornton born 1818 was the one who died in 1840 aged 22 in St.George East London.
Whether that is St. George East, London or St. George, East London...wonder what he was doing there.
?
His son, John Henry Thornton born 1840 died March 1885 aged 45
Only do this if you want to as I have all the Census records of boy....it's just those darn Gr Gr Gr grandparents names
