What source have you used to find where he was born?  There was no William Finch of the correct age born in Dereham in the 1851 index but there was one born in Elmham.

Have you found his marriage record?

This William Finch of East Dereham that you asked about is my 2x great-grandfather. I have done a lot of research in East Dereham and Suffolk on the FINCH/CARR family.
