What does it mean to be "of the Park"?

I found another thing I hope someone can explain from the Orlingbury register.  I noticed a few instances where someone was referred to as "of ye park".

Example:
"Burials...
1717
(Oct?) ye 19. Old Thomas Bass of ye Park was buried"

Presumably he lived in the Park, ie grounds of Orlingbury  Hall. The old OS map shows parkland to the south east of Orlingbury.

Pardon me, and belated thanks Mike. Been busy with work (and trying to decipher parish registers with Latin forms of first names).

Your mention of old OS maps inspired me to do some searching for old maps, and to the west of the village (but within parish boundaries) there are a couple of abandoned villages, including Wythemail, with a area marked as Wythemail Park, so I guess that's a likely source of the term.

Great - that sounds a likely location.  Old maps are a really good source for matching names of disappeared locations.
