Can't find any info about his baptism in the Irish records.
Have you got his marriage to Mary (Luddy). This would probably give father's name, which might help

June Q, 1871, Pancras, Vol 1b, p 287.

Gadget that's what I meant in my earlier post re father's name - from the marriage certificate.

John is in 1871 with the Luddys.

There are possible baptisms for John but you would need more information - Father's name etc.

I know - I'd typed my answer out with the marriage ref before seeing your post  so thought that mine would help the OP find the record. We're both singing from the same hymn sheet  ;D

Added - marriage ref again, in case it's been missed:

 ;)

You are far more helpful - or clear anyway. I thought the OP might have it already.
I have looked in UK censuses for any other Tipperary born Cashens but no success yet. Also the Luddys just show Ireland too. :-\

Found a possible service record for him - will read some more. I think it says born Carig, Tipperary.

PS - looks like same writing style

Added - not him  :(

Thank you Gadget & Heywood for your replies.

I do have the marriage certificate for John Cashen & Mary Luddy.  They married in St Aloysius Church on 28 May 1871.  John's father was also named John, deceased by 1871.  He was Labourer.  John was 23 when he was married and that puts his birth to 1848.

The Luddy family, Mary's father was Michael and his father was Jeremiah.

From the difference of the name with the signature at the bottom of the census page it seems that John Cashen himself did not fill in the page - maybe the enumerator? Perhaps more of his writing can be found....

ADDED: there are 27 John Cashens born/baptised 1850 +- 5 yrs on a free search rootsireland.ie - a subs is needed to see the results or even to filter on County Tipperary and father John [I don't have any credits], but there are none on the church records on free irishgenealogy.ie [and civil registration started 1855]. You could try Griffiths valuation on findmypast if John's father was also John.
Seeking: RC baptism Philip Murray Feb ish 1814 ? nr Chatham Kent.

I think I've tried all of them Josey but none found so far with  John as father.  The nearest I've managed is 1849 with  a father James in the Diocese of Killaloe but ,although adjacent to Co. Tipperary, is just over the border.
