Thomas O'Connell
« on: Sunday 03 September 17 19:09 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I was wondering if someone could help me.

I am trying to find a Thomas O'Connell born c.1863 in Liverpool, in the 1881 census. A year later, he is residing at what looks like 4 Court Hopwood Street in Liverpool. I can't find him in the 1881 as I can't find a way to search by address. Does anyone know how too? If he's not at that address, he may be somewhere else in Liverpool.

Thanks in advance.

Ellie

Hello,

He is perhaps Thomas Connor at 1881 3599/125/70

Do you have his parents to compare with the census?

Thanks. Possibly him - I will have a look now.

I know that his father was Thomas O'Connell and that is it.

Thanks,
Ellie

There is a Thomas O'Connell a couple of years older, born Liverpool, with a widowed mother Margaret in Denison St. Mother is a Boarding House keeper.

As Heywood has said -- do you have a birth or marriage for him which would help re parents' names?

I've been unable to find a birth record too. I'm pretty sure he was born in 1863 from his death record, but I may have to request his marriage certificate to find out for sure.

Thanks,
Ellie

Ellie -- unfortunately his age may not appear on his marriage certificate - if he was 21 or over it may just say 'of full age'. However his marriage cert should give his father's occupation as well as his name -- also Thomas's occupation at that time --- which may just help. In addition - if you are very lucky -a witness may also be an O'Connell who might just be a brother.

Names beginning with O' can be troublesome --- also there is a double 'n' and a double 'l' -- hence it is subject to mistranscription - so not easy.

I cannot see an obvious birth or baptism for him either -- but one way or another this line will go back to Ireland!

Good point about the age. Unfortunately I already know that the witnesses aren't O'Connell's, and neither are any of his children's godparents.

I agree on the mistranscriptions.

Definitely!
