Can anyone identify this man's badge/medal?
« on: Sunday 24 September 17 05:16 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knows what sort of badge/medal this gentleman is wearing?.  Is it something Masonic??  What does it mean?

Thanks
RK

Can you zoom in on just the medal ( a higher resolution image) as it might help to identify it?

Mary :)

Googling "badge three horizontal bars" suggests the RAOB (Buffaloes) might have something similar.

Hi,

Yes - I probably should have said :) :)

Buckley is in Flintshire, North Wales (near Chester).  I think this man was born there, lived there for several years, then may have moved to Australia.  I believe he was born around 1850.

Thanks

I think this is similar:

Thanks a lot Carol :)....that looks very much like the medal in my photo.  Mine is very similar..with the addition of 3 bars.   Thanks also for the cleaner image of my man's medal.  It is much easier to see now.

So, he is wearing a Masonic Breast Jewel.  Does anyone know the significance of this jewel - who might wear it and what does it mean?

Thank you very much Mike.  I looked up the RAOB - very interesting. I Googled images of RAOB "jewels" and they are similar to mine.  This helps me feel much more confident that my man is wearing a "jewel" from a fraternal organization.  In this case, it appears to be the Masons, rather that the RAOB.
